“I’m a uniter, not a divider!” GW Bush, 29 February 2000

From MSNBC news, 20 April, 2007:

BAGHDAD – U.S. soldiers are building a three-mile wall to protect a Sunni Arab enclave surrounded by Shiite neighborhoods in a Baghdad area “trapped in a spiral of sectarian violence and retaliation,” the military said.

When the wall is finished, the minority Sunni community of Azamiyah, located on the eastern side of the Tigris River, will be completely gated, and traffic control points manned by Iraqi soldiers will provide the only means to enter it, the military said.

Great. Now we’re bringing gated communities to Iraq. Or, as I prefer to call it, The Baghdad Wall. Years from now, some Reagan wannabe will stand proudly next to this monument to “American success” in Iraq and urge them to “Tear down this wall.” Now, if they can only find a way to get missiles and other projectiles to avoid going over those 12 feet of concrete. Maybe they need to put a glass ceiling over the neighborhoods they want to protect as well. No wait… that’s a different concept.

Now, where is that wall…?
