December 30, 2008 — Naples Museum of Art

December 31, 2008 09:33 – 09:33

Today, we went to the Naples Museum of Art. It’s attached to the Philharmonic Center for the Arts. Its three permanent exhibits are American Modernism, Modern Mexican Masters, and Masters of Miniature. There was also an excellent sampling of works by Marsden Hartley. A large amount of space currently is being set up, and wasn’t available to see yesterday. However, given how long it took to see what is open, I guess we should be grateful.

The grounds themselves have some interesting pieces. The central sculpture (first two pictures below) on the grounds is by the same sculptor as a piece that’s on display inside the main foyer. I failed to note the names of the pieces or the artists.

After Naples, we went to Shrimp Boat Lane in Fort Myers to pick up some shrimp for dinner. I made shrimp scampi over fresh fettuccini. It turned out okay, but I wasn’t as impressed by the fresh local Gulf shrimp as I thought I would be.

Today, I’m hoping to see some Manatees. We’re going to Manatee Park in Fort Myers. Hopefully, it’s been cool enough to chase some Manatees inland a little, where they go for warmth when the water off the coast gets cold.
