First of two nights in Bedford, Mass.

August 15, 2009 21:01 – 21:01

This is my obligatory blog—my oblogatory. If I don’t blog where I am, I won’t remember later on. We’re at the Homewood Suites at 35 Middlesex Turnpike in Billerica/Bedford, Massachusetts—behind the Naked Fish—up the hill from the Hampton Inn. Not to be confused with the Homestead Suites in Burlington, where we stayed last time.

I prefer Homewood. It has a living room/kitchen in one room and a king-sized bed with adjacent bathroom in the other room. It’s a good sized unit. I think the sofa is a sleeper, too—no need to try to find out. It has a full-sized fridge, a 2-burner range, and a microwave oven. No real oven, but I didn’t plan to bake any casseroles anyway.

We arrived very hungry—so we called for food from Alexander’s Pizza. We normally get from Lexington House of Pizza, but I decided that I’d like to try Alexander’s again. We hadn’t gotten their pizza in over 30 years. Back then, we decided that we liked LHOP better. We were right. LHOP is a lot better—especially the crust. But, Alexander’s is still better than most of what we can get in northern Virginia.

Tomorrow, we’ll meet up with Liz at Katie’s Aberdeen apartment. Unfortunately, Liz has now been at BWI for over 7 hours, and her much delayed flight won’t be taking off for another hour or so—around 11. She’ll land at Logan just after midnight.

A few other friends will join us tomorrow afternoon. Sharon & Heather will be driving up from Connecticut, and will be coming to Boston before heading home to Leominster. Many hands make like work. Plus, it’s nice to have someone here to share the grief and sadness. I think that that distributes the burden of sadness over more people, and lightens that load a little, too.

In any case, that’s all for the blog tonight. I suspect I’ll be a bit more introspective tomorrow night, but not sure I’ll be able to post. I guess we’ll see.
