Two quick reviews: Taco Ardiente and Truly Organic Pizza

February 15, 2013 21:05 – 21:05

For lunch today, I went to Taco Ardiente, on the strength of a Yelp review. I had shredded beef enchiladas. They were okay, but nothing to write home about. They came with your typical rice and refried beans, and some fresh salsa with a dollop of sour cream. I’d give them a 3 on a scale of 5.

For dinner, I called for carryout from Truly Organic Pizza, which delivers and is around the corner from here. They are pricy ($28.40 for an 18″ pizza), but I was egged on by several good Yelp reviews. Plus, I didn’t want to go out.

On a pizza scale of 1 to 10, where Alex’s in Biddeford sets the standard for 10, and Faccia Luna is a 9, TOP was about a 3. It was pepperoni with extra cheese. The cheese was very watery—not at all what I’m used to. Since I usually don’t eat much of the crust, I wasn’t too terribly put out by the mediocre crust. Unlike my own crust, which I have a very hard time resisting, I had no problem resisting TOP’s bottom. All told, I’m glad I got the large size, since eating just the toppings wasn’t very filling.

Bottom line: I think I need to reassess my reliance on Yelp. It’s not all that dependable. Perhaps the people who review things on Yelp are easier to please than I am.
