Day 11: From Västerås to Kvibergs (Near Göteborg)… or rain, rain, go away!

May 13, 2013 14:21 – 14:21

The weather (intermittent heavy rain) is conspiring to make this day a mostly travel day. I’m in a cottage in Kvibergs, which is either in Göteborg or very close to it. The red dot shows where I am. Off to the west is Skagerrak Bay, which leads out to the North Sea.

I chose this place because it’s not urban. There’s also a very castle-like building very close by, and I’d like to take a walk to figure out what it is, and to take a few pictures. But, my camera (and I) aren’t waterproof. Sheltered by the umbrella, I did manage to snap a picture of the cottage with my phone.

Every time I think the rain has stopped… it starts again.

Oh… the other day, when I was at the Arctic Circle, I joked that Santa Claus was also in the picture. A few days later, I saw the same image in several other places, and realized that it wasn’t Santa at all… it was some other clown.

Yes. It’s the symbol for GB Glace (ice cream), which was Glace-Bolaget until 1991. It’s the largest ice cream company in Sweden. The clown has been their symbol since 1965. Maybe clowns don’t scare the hell out of people in Sweden the way they do in the U.S. Well… at least Stephen King fans.
