Pacific NW Trip, Day 1

August 2, 2013 11:36 – 11:36

I’m in Portland, Oregon. The 5 hour 45 minute flight turned into a 7 hour, sit-for-an-hour-or-more-and-then-flight. At DCA, we were told, one of the runways was closed due to weather. WTF? In any case, we eventually took off, and here I am, at the Candlewood Suites near the PI Airport. As I was getting my bags ready to take down the stairs for my cab ride to the airport, I bemoaned the fact that my very functional check-in bags look like everybody else’s bags, and would be hard to pick out on the luggage carousel. So, I fixed it.

And, it worked. I spotted them immediately when the rolled onto the luggage conveyor belt.

Today’s plan includes finding an ice chest, going to Multnomah Falls, along with possibly going to Forest Park, the International Rose Test Garden, and maybe getting a food cart lunch in Portland. Or, maybe having a picnic lunch somewhere, instead. And, then I head north to Tacoma, where a friend is being ordained tomorrow morning.

Here’s the OB picture out my hotel window. Hopefully, the clouds will be gone by later today.

I just now saw that the State Department has issued a worldwide alert to U.S. citizens because of threats from Al Qaeda. Hopefully, Al Qaeda don’t know where the Pacific northwest is.
